[Those in the Rocket Base are sure to hear some... interesting sounds. Sounds of fists pounding, and of some guy... roaring? Yes, roaring. Seems one of the new recruits is a bit of an oddball.

And it won't be long until Bowser bursts into the hall, fists clenched, his lips pulled back to reveal some gigantic, pointed teeth... highly unnatural for a human. Behind him toddles a Turtwig, who rolls her eyes as she trails behind him. Why did she have to get stuck with a crazy one?]

Graaaah! When I get my hands on the one who did this to me, I'll smash 'em into the ground and take back what's rightfully mine! That Star Rod's gotta be around here somewhere...

[Somebody may want to intervene. This guy's packing a lot of muscle and some pretty huge fists, after all.]

[Later, once he figures out how to use the PokéGear, expect a shot of one very angry man... and also, teeth. Seriously, what's with this dude?]

Listen up, because I'm only gonna say this once! If you're the chump who placed this blasted curse on me, you better step forward now, or you'll be facing the full fury of the Koopa Troop! And as their King, nobody's allowed to make a mockery of me, you hear that?!

It sounds like you're a member of Team Rocket! It's a criminal organization here that relies on stealing Pokémon - you woke up with a red-and-white ball nearby, right? The creature inside is a Pokémon! Basically we steal those things and hand them over to Team Rocket in order to get money or promotions or whatever, but it's really just an excuse to get to beat up people and take their things.

[Which is really the best you're going to get when you can't kill people.]

Well, well! Stealing things and causing a ruckus... These Rocket guys are smart for picking me to join their crew.

[Clearly, they must have admired his fantastic villainy! Gwa ha ha ha!]

I already found those ball-things earlier, anyway. One of 'em had a strange looking Koopa, and the other... some dumb fish that looks like a Cheep Cheep's sick cousin.

Huh, they do kind of look like Cheep-Cheeps now that you mention it...

[A pause, then Ryuunosuke pulls out a Pokéball.]

See, the creatures in this "evolve" into other larger, more dangerous forms. Well, not all of them evolve, but the really useless ones usually do! That fish will turn into this if you raise it right!

[And voila, witness the glory that is Gyarados!!

...Well it would be more glorious if it wasn't asleep. Ryuunosuke pouts.]

Well, you get the point. They turn into a giant sea-serpent once you've raised them to level twenty!

[Bowser's jaw drops.

That silly fish is gonna become a ferocious monster? Okay, so maybe that one's sleeping, but still! He wants one of those yesterday!]

Raise it right, huh? In that case, I'll just have to toughen it up into one of those bad boys. Then it'll be a shining example for my future army!

[Gwa ha ha ha!]

Just how am I supposed to level it up in the first place? It doesn't look like it can do much.

Yeah, it'll be great! I mean, it's not a Koopa, but you've got to use what you can since I'm pretty sure there aren't any Koopas here.

[...Though that would make for an interesting Pokémon...]

It's really tough to raise on its own, so what I did was send it out into battle with my other starter! My other one could do more damage, so I just let the fish get experience while not actually doing anything. It worked like a charm! Just get it to level 20 and it'll turn into one of these beautiful beings!

Well, I've got something that kind of looks like a Koopa, so that's close enough!

[Even if the tree parts are weird. Seriously.]

But can that fish really get stronger from doing nothing? Wouldn't it be easier to just smack it against to knock 'em out?

Oh really? That's great! Now you just need to train an army of them!

[At least there aren't any Mario Brothers here!]

You'd think that would be the best way to do it, right? But that can cause the fish to faint, and fainted Pokémon don't get any experience points, so they won't level up. Basically, you have to be pretty nice to the fish if you want it to evolve. I mean, I wouldn't suggest being mean to something that could easily eat you, but these things do tend to be easier to raise if you're nice to them.

Once I figure out where to find them, I plan on it! Anything remotely Koopa-like is a welcome addition to my army. The same goes for Goombas, Shy Guys, and Bloopers.

[Among other things. But yes, no Mario Brothers is a plus.]

...Well, if it gets him stronger, I guess I can't complain. Maybe then he'll be able to do more than splash around and look stupid.

Yeah! You'll build the most powerful army in Johto, sir!

Well, since you seem to know so much about these Pokémon things, are there any potential recruits I oughta keep an eye out for? I'm thinking something big, tough. The strongest around!

Well, that depends on what you're looking for! There are all sorts of massive, powerful Pokémon! My personal favorite is this one!

[Ryuunosuke turns and releases another Pokémon - a Steelix. He roars and settles down after a moment, allowing Ryuunosuke to hop up on his head.]

He's so cool! He can use all sorts of awesome moves and you can ride him! And he can explode!

[Because clearly that is the coolest thing ever.]

[Duuuude.

Bowser stares at the glorious metal snake, and there's an audible gasp.]

Large, intimidating, and explosive? Now that's what I call a monster!
